Player Bio
- 1 WSOP Bracelet
- Final Table, 2008 WSOP Main Event
- Over $4 million in Career Tournament Earnings
While few might have known about Scott’s ability as a poker player prior to 2008, everyone knows now. 2008 was Scott’s “breakthrough year” and he amassed over $3.5 million in tournament earnings in this year alone, culminating in his final table appearance in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.
A native of Ontario, Canada, Scott first learned about poker by playing online while working as an English teacher in Japan. After investing about $200, he started winning and hasn’t had to re-invest since. In addition to studying every poker book that he could get his hands on, he furthered his experience by playing live. Today, Scott’s attitude to poker is a pragmatic one: “I’m definitely not a great player by any stretch of the imagination but I have certain areas that I specialize in and I take advantage of them“.
His 2008 began with a great run in the WPT’s L.A. Poker Classic $9.9K No-Limit Hold ‘em championship event in February where he made the final table, facing eventual winner, Phil Ivey. Scott finished in 5th place and earned over $296K. Then, in the 2008 WSOP series prior to the Main Event, Scott ran deep and cashed in three No-Limit Hold ‘em events, including a 16th place finish in the $10K Heads-Up World Championship. In these three events alone, Scott earned an impressive $73K.
However, it was in the Main Event Scott where Scott really showed his ability, as he worked his way through a field of 6,844 entrants. Having made it to the final table as one of the November Nine, he knocked out two players before being eliminated in 5th place, taking home a check for $3,096,768.
Scott’s competitiveness and work ethic are never far from the surface. An indication is the day trip he took between Day 1 and 2 of the Main Event to the Bellagio to play in the $3K No-Limit Hold ‘em tournament in the Bellagio Cup IV. True to form, he took fourth place and returned to make the final table of the Main Event with an additional $34K in his pocket.
At the WSOP 2010, Scott won his first gold bracelet in Event #36, a $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament. Starting in a field of 3,102, he battled through four days of competition and won the final hand with ace-high for a first prize of $481,760.
